Halloween Education Campaign

Fear the FOG

To freshen up our fats, oils, and grease (FOG) outreach efforts and extend the campaign duration over previous years, I led a two-phased FOG campaign in 2021. First, a more playful, Halloween-themed phase ran in October to rais awareness of FOG in a new cultural context. Then, a more traditional campaign during November and December that built on the success of previous years.

Execution of the Halloween campaign centered around a PSA that mocked a 1940’s horror film trailer. The trailer educated viewers about the dangers of fats, oils, and grease and drove them to a landing page where they could learn more.

In addition to the 30-second and 60-second trailers, we also drove awareness through movie posters, a social media campaign, and earned media.

The campaign received a 2023 National Environmental Achievement Award from the National Association of Clean Water Agencies and was nominated for a National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Mid-America Regional Emmy Award.
