Tunneling Toward a Cleaner Meramec River: Media Spotlight
An engineering marvel is silently taking shape beneath St. Louis County as the Lower Meramec Tunnel project advances toward its goal of cleaner waterways. At MSD Project Clear, we are driven by an unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship, and this ambitious 6-mile tunnel, made possible by a $175 million investment, exemplifies our dedication.
However, despite its long-term benefits, most of our customers are unaware of its existence. This is where the Public Affairs Division comes into play. We are responsible for bringing visibility to this underground work and demonstrating to our customers how we are investing their rates.
To accomplish this, we recently invited our trusted media partners to tour the tunnel and help us share this remarkable story:
KMOV - New MSD tunnel project to prevent overflows, protect Meramec River
St. Louis Post Dispatch - Six-mile, $175 million MSD tunnel project on track, below south St. Louis County
By leveraging reputable outlets like KMOV and the St. Louis Post Dispatch, we are able to reach a broader audience and foster trust in our mission. This is particularly crucial as rates continue to rise. We need to assure our customers that their money is being wisely and innovatively invested to enhance water quality in our region.
While the Lower Meramec Tunnel will undoubtedly have a significant environmental impact, it also serves as a reminder that we all have a role to play in safeguarding our water resources. We extend our gratitude to everyone who actively participates in our mission and contributes to maintaining a clean and healthy St. Louis for generations to come.
